I find this forum the most knowledgeable on stuff, so here goes:
A couple of months ago, I used my Dell c600 laptop (it's old, I know) to check some things using VAGCOM, namely readiness. No problems.
2 weeks ago, I go to check somethings, and I get the "no response from controller" .
I remove and reinstall VAGCOM and nothing changes. I then try to hook up with Lemmi, and get the same message, so I figure it's hardware related.
I then buy a 3rd party USB (I was using a 3rd party serial), thinking I should have that one. I d/l VAGCOM 409 and install the various drivers the provider of the cable gives me. In the "options" menu, VAG recognized the cable, no problem.
When going to the "engine" section, I get the "no response from controller" again. Also, when I search for the controller, I see that it's finding the controller, but then VAG tells me something about "too many comm errors".
My laptop is on XP, and I disabled the firewall and virus protection, and I see that a bunch of peripherals are using IRQ 9. I am not computer illiterate, but cannot figure out even how to change the IRQ, so I don't even know if this is the problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Try disabling some of your other ports that you arent using; like the parallel port, firewire port, etc. Manually assigning IRQs could get really messy.
