Default for you all that had timing belt changed out.

i believe i've read most ppl change em out before 70k... my is slightly pass it, so i call up the dealer and was told the schedule is at 90k! and i just read the tech section it shows 90k as well... what is the deal?

why are ppl worried like ants on a hot pot before 70k? it seems that even at 80k you are still in the clear.... anyways, since i was "quoted" a low price, i went ahead and scheduled it for next tuesday... i need to get an oil change anyways (brake fluid, trans fluid.. etc)

better to be safe than sorry. once that belt breaks/skips, your engine is toast.

Default How much do you trust your Audi?

It's really a matter of what are you willing to risk. The problem as I'm sure you know is what happens when one fails. A moderate job turns into a major PITA. I had mine done after a water pump imploded and took the original one out. I guess I would have waited unless I was in there having something else done. The only advise I would have is to do the water pump at the same time.

Default Most of the paranoia comes from the A4 forum...

where belts have a history of snapping before 90K leaving the owner with $3K in engine damage (which Audi will not cover, despite their suggested change intervals).

At this point it's really up to you. Perhaps your belt will actually make it to 90K, or perhaps you'll suffer the same fate as the A4 owners who have come before you.

60K is recognized by most as the accepted interval.

Default Just did mine at 85k. And don't forget to do the ribbed belt, tensioners and the water pump too.

What did the stealer quote ya? I've heard everything from $1000 t0 $1800 for the whole job.
