5k Service Questions

My S6 now has 3,000 miles. On 10/15 I'm leaving on a month long road trip and will have about 4k miles prior to the trip and upon my return the odo will read approx. 7k miles. Questions...
1. Would you do the 5k service prior to the trip @ 4k miles or wait until return @ 7k miles?
2. Will Audi USA allow the dealer to perform the 5k service @ 4k miles?
My BMW experience is that the dealer could not perform scheduled services until the mileage threshold is reached. Will Audi have the same restriction?

I would wait until you get back to do the service. Do you have AudiCare because if so I doubt they would do it 1k miles before the service is do. If you are paying for it out of pocket they probably wouldn't care.

Audi recommends scheduled services be done plus or minus 1000 miles of the miles notated in the service manual. I seriously doubt it would make a big difference to have it done at 4K vs 5K and better to get the original oil changed sooner rather than later - common sense would indicate driving an extra 3000 miles at highway speeds without the first oil change is probably not a terrific idea. I had mine done at 4400 miles for the same reason as you - a long upcoming trip. It's mostly just an oil change with a bunch of visual checks and any required software updates at 5K. Keep in mind, your next service reminder warnings will come on at +10K miles from the last reset after you bring it in.

Thanks for the quick responses. Called the dealer this afternoon and it's no problem to have the 5k service done @ 4k miles. Shoulda called him in the first place but it's always good to hear of other's experiences.
