Default Factory order lead times

Hi,

This is my first post in this forum. Yesterday I placed an order for a 2014 S6. They told me at the dealer that factory orders take between 3 and 4 months, and that I should not expect the car to arrive until December. My question is; How accurate is that estimate? I'm hoping that the December date is a worst case scenario, and the car could come earlier than that.

Anyway, hope to be posting more in this forum in the near future.

We ordered a 2013 A8 in February and it arrived in May. I don't think you will get the car any sooner than 10 or 11 weeks at the absolute soonest. 3 months is a good estimate if you live on the east coast. If you are on the west coast, it will obviously take longer due to cargo vessel travel times.

Typically, order to delivery takes about 9-12 weeks but limited production models like the S6 can take longer. There mare many variables including dealer allocation, quantity of dealer's sold orders ahead of you, manf. parts availability, transit times from the port to your dealer's location. The best thing to do is, after a couple of weeks, ask the salesperson to provide you with a detailed status of your order. Once your car is commissioned, the status will be available to the salesperson and will show the estimated dates for the various stages, i.e. production date, ETA to departure port, departure date, arrival date and more. A conscientious salesperson should be able to update you with the status every so often.
There are many, many threads dedicated to this subject if you use the search feature.

Thanks for the quick response. I appreciated (although is not the response I was hoping for ). It's going to be a long 4 month period.

On the bright side, my birthday is in early December, so this may be the best birthday ever!!

Not to get your hopes up, but my dealer originally quoted 6-8 months (this was for an Audi Exclusive color), but it actually showed up after 12 weeks to the day. My Q5 that is currently on order also looks like it will take almost exactly three months.

I ordered a 2014 S6 July 17th and the dealer told me 3-4 months to delivery. The dealer I ordered from is one of two major dealers in Colorado. The smaller dealers I talked to said up to 6 months. I did talk to a dealer on another forum and he said his S6 models are going a bit slower than usual at the moment.

My car hasn't been commissioned yet but I'm hoping I get into this month's allocation. My need for instant gratification is killing me right now...

I ordered 6/6, but my dealer already had an allocation. The car was supposed to have arrived in port on 8/22, and it should arrive at the dealer within the next week or so.

Ok, Based on this informtation I should expect the car to be delivered some time between mid November and mid December. Again, thanks for the info!

I promise I'll post pictures when she gets home.

Right after I posted, I got an email from my dealer saying I have a build date. Sounds like week 39 for the build with delivery 5-6 weeks later, so all in I'll be at about 16 weeks from order to delivery.
