Default Oil Weight and Type from factory?

Does anyone know what the factory oil recommendation is for the 2013 S6? Weight? Synthetic/Conventional?

Also, does Audi use a "break in" oil for this car (lesser viscosity for clearing debris or something like that)?

What is the first recommended factory oil change interval, and after that?

I'm purchasing an S6 shortly, and it's so frustrating not having this type of basic information :-)

Audi factory oil is Castrol 5W-40 fully synthetic.

The first recommended oil change should be when your vehicle calls for service.

Your manual will state all this information.

No special break in oil is used. It's the same VW SAE approved 5W-40 synthetic as used during the life of the car. While some feel the oil should be changed sooner, Audi recommends the 5000 mile scheduled service for the first oil change.

Thanks for the replies guys. 5W-40 is what I have tons of, so that's good news. I've been using the Amsoil 5W-40 in my M3 for years. Every oil analysis came back as having more additive left than some new oils have fresh out of the bottle. I used Blackstone Labs by the way.

I'm glad I didn't let the oil go with M3! I would have if you hadn't replied, so thank you.

Just make sure it meets the "VW 502 00" spec standard.

For sure. Amsoil meets or exceeds any manufacturers minimum specification. They really are cutting edge without the marketing campaign of some other synthetic oils. Someone once told me Amsoil spends money on R&D, and Mobil 1 spends their money on marketing. Lol. Amsoil has plenty of independant industry standard tests where they handily beat all other top brand synthetics. Here are the basic specs for the Amsoil 5W-40 copied from their website.

AMSOIL European Car Formula Synthetic Motor Oil is formulated to meet or exceed the most demanding European specifications. It is recommended for European gasoline or diesel vehicles requiring any of the following performance specifications:

•API SN/SM...
•ACEA C3
•BMW LL-04
•GM dexos2
•Mercedes-Benz 229.51/229.31
•Porsche A40
•Volkswagen 502.00/505.01

Well then, it looks like you're in great shape with that oil stash.
