Thanks to you and m444 for clarification. At the risk of quibbling, if it requires extra energy, whether through a drive shaft or a motor, its a kind of supercharger. I could however, imagine exhaust gas driving a generator and charging a battery which then powers a motor that pushes fuel/air. That would be novel.

All of them improve volumetric efficiency by forcing a denser charge into the cylinder. But no lag, as with a turbo. And no drag, as with a supercharger. Needs a lot of juice though, hence separate 48v subsystem which is powered from lithium battery.
