Looking at an 2016 A6 with high mileage
Looking at an Audi A6. Wife wants to get rid of her Tahoe and get into one of these. Found a good deal on one locally. 2016 A6 2.0T Premium plus with S-line pkg. The car does have 117,897 miles but is in Excellent condition. Guy who traded it in put 30,000 miles per yr on it all highway.. never had an Audi but I drove it and everything felt tight. No noises, rattles or vibrations. I have them talked down to $15,000. My wife only puts 7-9,000 miles per yr on her cars. It has 9pgs of service records mostly oil changes. Brakes and a new battery . What else should I look for? Thanks

I would look through this link to get a feel on how Audi's perform after 100k miles...

Based on my own experience, as well as 15 years on various Audi forums, Audis typically become problematic at the 130k mile/8.5 year marks. The car you are looking at is getting close to the 130k mile mark.

You might want to check on the front passenger seat detector for the airbag. There is a recall on this. See if this car is included in the recall. The dealer will fix it for free. We have a 2016 A6 2.0T Quattro PP from new and now with about 50K miles. It has performed flawlessly. We recently put new brakes and tires on it. Otherwise, only oil changes, air filter, cabin filter.

I'm pretty handy as far as diy when it come to fixing my own cars. My biggest concern is there is no Audi dealer for like an hr away.. do they need special tools when fixing ball joints, wheel bearings? I did read the whole 100k mile thread. The only thing that I would be worried about is the trans. How reliable are the 2.0t motors?

These cars are complicated compared to a Chevy small block V8 and parts are expensive. I've run numerous Acura products well past 100K miles (in fact have one that is at 177K miles -- no troubles of any consequence to date) but never a German car. Not to slam all German cars or Audis in particular but these cars can eat you alive at higher mileages. We have two Audis in our fleet -- leased /18 A4 and owned /15 A6 3.0T, neither of which I have any appetite to keep for too long. A4 will be gone while warranty still in place and A6 will depart my garage by 6-6.5 years/60-65,000 miles. Love the way the cars drive but too many horror stories at higher mileages in my opinion. All it will take is one transmission to let go and you will regret acquiring a higher mileage Audi. If you can acquire the car for $5,000 then I'd have a different view................. There have to be cars out there with less miles for not too much more $ I would think.

I would stay away from this. Audi's are extremely expensive to maintain once they get to this mileage... you missed the "prime years" of this car and it will probably just be a headache and wallet drainer from this point on...
