Hi all: I am afraid my engine in the TT (MK2 2008) is toast. I suspect an overheat followed by a head gasket.
Anyway, I can get a donor engine from the same model year, but the question is: Is the engine any different if you had an Auto transmission vs Manual? My car is indeed a manual; and I can of course move everything over during the swap and 'while you are in there' things (like, clutch while engine is out)

But, if I get a donor that is an auto will the engine be the same I guess from the crankshaft back?

Or do I need to ensure the donor is a MT ??

Just about to buy, please if anyone knows let me know!!

I think it is a wise decision to ensure you get the right transmission-specific engine. From my research, the engines can differ between manual and automatic models, so I'd highly recommend going with a donor that matches your current manual transmission. When I had issues with my transmission, I found MJM Engines reviews helpful. And I'm sure their team could likely provide more guidance on ensuring a perfect fit. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to a major engine swap.

Well, I am not so sure what I got; the VIN said automatic but the seller swore it was manual. At any rate, the new engine is in and works great. 3 days of labor but it seemed to work. I could do it again with my eyes closed.
Also, I have the HPA turbo on this car so that was fun....
