AC Question

That time of year. I was going to ask this question last year, but never got around to it. On those hot days (90+). How long does it take the AC to start blowing nice cool air and the interior to get comfortable? Is there any efficiency or capacity tests? Anything the VCDS can monitor?
I am all black. Interior and exterior and it takes a good ten minutes for the car to cool down after setting in the sun all day. I feel that this is somewhat normal as most of the interior parts are too hot to touch for the first five minutes.
Just asking... I have all the equipment to charge. Just do not want to fix something that is not broken.
Might plug in today and see what options instruments are available on VCDS...

Give me a few minutes and I'll go start my 4.0 and tell you, it's been outside all day in 90+ and is a black on black car.

From dead start with 91 ambient and 107 shown via scan tool for all zones in the car it takes 15 seconds for ac to drop to felt cold at the vents with sync on and set to low. 45 seconds for icy feeling air and 5 min total for cool enough it's uncomfortable.
Interior panels still feel somewhat warm after that.....congrats on making me randomly start a car btw lol!

Evacuated, pulled vacuum for an hour, charged to the recommended 930 grams... Believe it was better, but still not great... doubt I will go much further... thought about changing the cabin filter, but just did a few months back. Only thing that was odd to me during the charging process was the equilazation time. Once I shut everything down I had to wait what seemed an excessive amount of time for the system to equalizer in order to disconnect the high side..

What's an excessive amount of time? I am not sure how long it normally takes, but I would think at least 60 seconds and not more than 120 seconds? That's just a guess.

Normal cars I would guess around 60s. You can hear them equalize when you shut off the car... that loud hissing sound that slowly gets quiet.
This was no sound and several minutes... I finally disconnected under higher pressure than I would have liked to..

Thanks for that. I will check the temperature.. One thing that concerns me was the high side pressure was pretty low. I was in the shade, and best guess it was 85F outside. Only getting about 160PSI... It was a steady 160 with no bounce.. Would have expected it to be 250ish. Not sure I really trust the high side guage. I normally don't even use it. I always charge off weight... I will continue to look... might be slipping clutch, bad compressor, bad expansion valve, or I'm just half nuts and expecting too much after the car baked in the sun all day..

The compressor has wires coming out the back of it in the pictures i found on-line. That would make it a variable. I will look tonight and see if I can get a high side reading in VCDS. Might have a bad pressure transducer or bad compressor..
