Default SQ7 or SQ8

I am looking at 2 preowned ones, one is a 2021 Audi SQ8 Prestige and the other is a 2022 SQ7 Prestige. Both are about the same price. I really like the SQ8 exterior, especially the rear, but the SQ7 is a little newer with a little lesser miles than the SQ8.

-2021 SQ8-Prestige, black optics package, 30,000 miles.
-2022 SQ7-Prestige, Executive Package, 20,000 miles.

Honestly, I don't need the third row, but don't mind that its there. I think engine wise they're the same?
Any thoughts on it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yes, same engines. The 2nd row in the SQ8 will have a little more legroom than the SQ7. Other than that, fairly similar cars from my knowledge.

Well, I think the generalization is not always fair.

Mechanically very similar yes. Overall engine power feeling would be the same or similar feeling behind the wheel.

Driving wise or from an ownership perspective, perhaps there are a few differences.

SQ8 - frameless doors, less cargo capacity, easier to park, coupe looks
SQ7 - arguably more practical, larger to drive and for parking, more boot space, 3rd row for when and if needed

My advice would be to go with the one you like more. Dont know if mechanically or model wise anything changed between those two in the span of a year. I find that when you drive the car you like the most you often make it work better, especially when it comes to accommodating certain short comings or dealing with mishaps or setbacks. Drive both back to back for at least 30 minutes, maybe an hour. Drive the same route. Go park in the same spots. Load the same groceries/luggage. When I test drive a vehicle I always tell the salesman I am going to try and simulate what day to day looks like with my current car and they are always okay with it. Drive the road you take to work, go to your favorite drinks place and try to find parking, etc.

No one 'needs' a luxury German SUV. We want them. Go see which one you want more. Its always a passion project.

The SQ8 improved rear seat room is a plus that is appreciated far more often in my use. It is very rare I wish I did not have a slanted roof to hold more cargo as I don’t typically carry things floor to ceiling. For my beach trip, the trailer hitch supports a rack for the beach toys. I am also partial to the Q8 exterior though, especially with the black optics.

Agree on thee comments regarding rear leg room, everyone seems to notice. Definitely more space than our X5. Q8 also looks way more aggressive in my opinion.

When buying my Audi I asked the dealer to put them side by side. Same color. I just didn't like the extended rear window. I also took into consideration the lack of not using the third row. So that made the 8 a clear winner in my book.

Our 2019 Q7 had a LOT less tire/road noise than our ‘23 Q8. Take them both for extended drives on various pavements is this could be a factor for you.

Do both cars have exactly the same tire models?

Nope, 4 different sets between the two cars. It isn’t the tires though as the difference is noticeable at 5mph on our driveway…the Q8 simply has less/poorer sound insulation in and around the wheel wells than our Q7 did.

Haven’t driven a newer Q7 to see if they’ve been a victim of this, or if they’re maintaining a high level of quietness still.
