Interesting direction you are going for a German SUV, my son had those BFGoodrich tires on his Tacoma and did not like how noisy they were.

He switched to these and is very happy https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...tandard%20Tire

I'm in CO and just put Michelin cross climate 2 on my 18 Q5. Very nice tires, on sale at Costco, and the 3 peak symbol for winter driving.

I have the CC2 as well, and they're not noisy on a normal road (at least, no noisier than the OEM summer tires that came on the car) but they do ride just a little harsher. Not sure they're built for really rough roads and off-road driving though.

I have the CC2 as well, not any noisier, but gas mileage goes down over 2mpg, very aggressive tire.

My gas mileage hasn't changed. Got 'em in January so there's been plenty of time to notice a difference.

I have the CC2's as well. Haven't noticed any mileage changes, but I wouldn't recommend them for the OP's use case of an offroad tire. They are a great replacement for a pure summer and pure winter tire design for asphalt, but don't have a lug pattern to handle dirt/mud.

I haven't had any loss in fuel mileage either. I put CC2's on about 3,000 miles ago and have taken two long distance trips with them. They're great.

I've been happy with the Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires on the SQ5 for camping/light trails;

https://www.falkentire.com/wildpeak/attrail

These are 255/50R19 on a 19"x9" wheel, and we see about 85% on road and 15% off road with them.

OP here. thanks for the input. i didnt mean to sound like i would be doing heavy off-roading. certainly not in in mud. roads here are rather dry and loose.
pretty much look like the images Creo posted, rougher spots here and there but i will not be doing any crawling. about 85%road 15% dirt as well.
looks like Falken Wildpeak is popular, i started noticing it on a lot of cars here now that i pay attention to tires, lol.
