Remote Start Problems

Who successfully uses remote start on a regular basis? As a rule I'm not a remote start person, but I gave it a try recently in near-triple digit temps and I couldn't get it to work.
First attempt: received a message that remote start failed because the car wasn't safely parked. (Yes, the parking brake was engaged.)
Second attempt the following day: received a message that remote start was successful, but when I got to the car a few minutes later it wasn't running, and there was nothing to indicate it ever started.
Third attempt today: sending the start signal made my screen go black. The app didn't close, but I got no messages and the screen remained completely blank. I restarted the app and tried again with the same results. Needless to say the car wasn't started when I got to it.
I'm experiencing all sorts of technical issues, but the remote start issue is one of the most baffling. It just shouldn't be this difficult.

It worked on my RS6. Go outside and stand next to the car to confirm. Lock the car then then try.
