Default Angeles Crest Highway

Anybody with some suggestions on when the best time to enjoy this wonderful highway? Will it be empty on a weekday or the weekend? Will the Highway Patrol be around more during the week or weekend?

And any good stories from this stretch of pavement?

I am looking forward to enjoying the best road in southern california!

Default It's closed from Islip Saddle. A good route is >>

to take highway 2 (Angeles Crest) -> Angeles Forest Highway -> Palmdale area -> head back from Highway 14 -> 5 south.

It's much more fun if you take the reverse of the above. Highway 14 is quite steep towards Palmdale, pretty fun to drive up the hills. You will not meet much traffic going the reverse way. Best time is at night after 10pm any day.

I love to hit the roads on Angeles Crest and Mount Baldy. Too bad my car is waiting for a new transmission. It'll be about 2 weeks b4 I can go up there again.

Default The Angeles Forest Highway looks nice

Maybe I'll head up it and back the same way. I'll probably just have to top off my fuel on the north side before I turn back.

Default A guy on a crotch rocket slammed into my buddies brand-new orange WRX on that road.

We were doing a mountain bike shuttle and a Russian dood came around a blind corner (is there any other kind up there?) in our lane. Jacked up his bike good, fair amount of damage to the car (but driveable). Car had 4 people in it so we left the Russian with his busted bike on the side of the road.

Ouch, A blind turn is dangerous enough, let alone being in the wrong lane...

So the Crest or Forest Hwys aren't used as commuter shortcuts at rushhour?
