I've only done one NASA event, and that was at Road Atlanta last summer. The biggest differences were supplying your own numbers on the doors, no drills, more cramped parking spaces because of the large number of racers, and the wide variety of cars in the HPDE events. In my run group my TT was the only Audi. There were Mustangs, BMWs, Lotuses (Loti?), Miatas, Porsches, Corvettes, Mitsubishi. etc. Track time was similar to our Club events, and you were able to watch races between HPDE run groups. Well organized, and efficiently run.
