Default Taxes on private party used sales in GA

How are these done here? Is it whatever is on the bill of sale, or does it go by the blue book or something like that?

Default No sales tax on priv. party sales. Ad valorem (tag) tax as follows>>

you can transfer your current tag, or purchase a new one for a small charge. Then, when time to renew (birthday) you must pay ad valorem tax based on the value of the car in the State of GA's computer * your area's (zip code or county, not sure) millage rate.

I've bought / sold a sh!tload of cars.... can do this in my sleep. Here's a trick that worked for me back in 2000-- bought a new car from a dealership in Chattanooga (2 hrs from me) and paid no SALES TAX. This saved me $1500 or so. I never received a bill from the State of GA for this either. Sweet!

Default Ok, well here is what I'm trying to figure out.

I just registered my bike that I currently had a title for etc. Paid the $86 or whatever for the registration and title transfer.

I want to buy a new bike. I'm trying to figure out what kind of registration and title costs will be on it.

Default If you're selling the old bike...

then your current Georgia tag (that you just paid for) will trasfer to the new bike. There is a transfer fee of $5 and a new title is $18.

If you're buying a new bike, you still pay $18 for the title plus $20 for a new tag.

Then on your birthday when you renew your tag, you will also have to pay ad valorem tax. You'll save the most money if you sell your bike just before your birthday, and buy the new one just after.

What bike do you have your eye on? VTEC VFR? Found a buyer for my 98. And let me know when you're ready for me to show you around up north.

since I used to have a 90 Honda HawkGT. Are you keeping the old bike?

Default I've got it for now. It'll go up for sale as soon as I get it back together.

Took it apart to do carbs, plus I need to repair the damage from the movers dropping it (doh!).
