Default Stripped bolt hole, subframe mount, opinions..

My 1999 A6 started making loud suspension noises as I drove. Got home and looked underneath.. The green bolt that goes up through the right subframe bracket was GONE.. doh.

Bought a new bolt, started putting it in, found out why the other fell out. The hole was stripped. This is the bracket that has two bolts that go into the subframe, and one big green bolt that goes up through the middle of the circle in the bracket, through the bushing and into the frame above.

1) This hole is just threaded right? The material looks thick enough and stripped.. other posts for VW's, etc, talked about welded nuts in the subframe, I don't think this is the case here..

2) I read that Helicoils are actually stronger in the hole than if I retap it for a larger bolt?

3) Should I just drill and retap one size larger and buy a bigger bolt?

Opinions? Thanks!
