Default A little off topic but I'll give it a shot..............

Any UNIX guys here in Houston on this forum? I've been trying to find a UNIX admin job or some sort of entry level UNIX position for awhile. Just can't seem to get my foot in the freakin door. So if there is anyone who might be able to help me out let me know and I'll send you my resume.

Thnx

Default Try the med center...

I just got a scientific programming job in a research lab at Baylor. Most of the labs run various flavors of UNIX. In my lab we've got a huge Beowolf cluster, and a bunch of SGIs. There were 40 people in my orientation group, so the school seems to be hiring like crazy.

Cool. Thanks, I'm pretty new to Houston so where is Baylor located? I have knowledge of Beowolf's mainly Linux clusters. Is there a website I can check out?

Default The med center

The med center's pretty cool actually. It's the largest medical center in the world by 3 times. There are several medical schools and hospitals in a couple block area.

It's located on the South side of town around Main and Fannin.

I'd click on the link below and check out the employment opportunities for each of the affiliated institutions.

Thanks alot...I'll definitley check it out. Unix jobs are hard to come by without 5+ years experience.

Default Well, that's the good thing about academia...

Universities are much more tolerant of novices, probably because they pay like ****. But then again, there aren't many corporations that have Beowolf clusters to play around with. :-)

It's a trade-off.

Good Luck!
