Default "SERVICE!" - instrument cluster acting up?

1) It says "SERVICE !" when I turn on the ignition... And then (after 2-3 seconds) it has the normal display. Is that normal?
2) It never said "Service in x miles" - no countdown, just suddenly "SERVICE!". Is that normal? (I have 33,050 mi btw)
3) After 30 seconds or so, the top part of the screen (where the radio / CD info is) goes blank. What's up with that?

tia folks...

Default Yep, but the countdown is only displayed if you check...

Press the left button while stopped and the computer will tell you how many miles until it displays the "Service!" warning...
