Default no, not here...

been here longer, and have been "taken under the shoulder" by some seniors here.

Bottom line is, I go, he goes....as in doors close, magazine shutters.

Default Re: any 1998 grand cru st emilion or pauillac or pomerol.

1996 is better, but I'd doubt you can find any first growth in the $30-50 range. I saw some 1998 Château La Gaffelière St Emilion (first growth, 1995 classification) at the local chain (Total Beverage) for $59 about 2 weeks ago.

Personally I prefer Margaux.

I know you asked for a merlot recommendation, but these wines are what I drink most of the time and are most similar in characteristics to merlot; flavors of plums, black cherry, violets, orange and less tannic.

p.s. the Pomerol consists mostly of merlot grapes but is still a blend.

Default ... The Pomerols & St Emilion are generally >50% Merlot. The '98 Pomerols are s'posed to be excel

But it might depend upon who/what your using it for.

My wife likes a Guenoc. But she says there are different levels of Guenoc Merlots. Just a thot.

Default Re: The Chateau Petrus Pomerol is >90% merlot according to the tour guide when I went there...

I prefer these wines because I can't stand much tannin. And these wines are eminently drinkable with or without a meal. :-)
