Default 00779 - Outside Air Temperature Sensor (G17): Open or Short to Plus

My outside air temperature sensor stopped working after working around the lower dash area. Readings are completely random or the cluster display is completely blank in the temperature (middle section). Does anybody know where the wiring for the air temperature sensor is under the lower dash? I'm thinking I may have accidently disconnected/forgot to disconnect a wire...

Thanks

Default It has to be integrated into one of the 3 ...>>>

Multiconnector plugs. All signals into the cluster are through them. Several large harnesses that I doubt you could have damaged. Maybe you bent a pin upon reinstall? I'd pull the plugs, inspect and re-install..

Strange thing is that I didn't touch the instrument cluster... only the lower dash panel?

Default Really?.......>>

Odd....Maybe a break in a wire in one of the harnesses....That would be about impossible to find unfortunately...

Have you checked the ambient sensor up in the grill? Check that and the plug. Some guys have occasionally found them missing with the wires dangling....:-)

Default I haven't - I'll check it tomorrow. No idea why that would have disconnected...

I disconnected the battery one day, tore into the lower dash segments, ran some power wiring to the rear of the car and put it all back together.

Who knows though, a gremlin probably did it.

Default Hmm... looking at the Bentley wiring diagrams and it looks like it connects through...

Default Check them all...>>

With the various CAN and K busses that connect everything, it could really be anywhere,,

Default Checked the wires up front and behind the AC Control Unit (E87)...

Didn't find anything wrong. I guess I'll have to lower the dash and see if I somehow screwed up a connection up under the cluster area...

Is it possible that the sensor just went bad?
