'01 TT have a stereo code?

Yes. It was on a perforated, pull-out card in the radio manual. If you're lucky, it's been left in the glovebox. It may also be written on a label in the trunk, a 4-digit code. If you cannot find it, the dealer is supposed to be able to look it up from your VIN.
You may not need it. The hocus-pokery that goes on between the instrument cluster and the radio (they're tied together in some mystical way) is supposed to remember the code so long as the radio isn't changed. I've removed and re-installed my radio in the past, and just did a battery replacement; neither time required the radio code to be re-installed.
