Default 12v outlet add on anyone?

I have been driving my red TTQ for a week now and really hate having the ashtray open to plug in the cell phone. Has anyone found an appropriately TT elegant method of adding a 12v outlet on the dash? If so, who did it and did they need to tear apart the dash to get it in? As a side note, my daughter has a New Beetle and that car has accessory outlets everywhere. She and two of her friends have operated cell phones in the car at the same time!

Default I'm sure LarryTT will have something for you. Look at this pic of HIS 12v job.

Default If you go to my new TT website you will see mine . . .

Just follow the links to my Stereo Install and you will see a few pictures of my variation.

I went with this approach since it is VERY unobtrusive. It is a standard Radio Shack accessory outlet that is hooked to the cigarette lighter wire. The outlet is always ON, just like the stock outlet.

The aluminum ring is still there, but the accessory outlet is expoxied to it! It gives a very nice factory finish. I think.

I am also going to be cutting the top of the button that was removed and epoxying it to the accessory outlet cover for an even better look!

Default Two questions Larry.

1. What are you going to do if ESP needs your 12V AC button?
2. No cross country travel plans, or is a roof rack for luggage in the works?

Default The answers to your two questions

1. I am NOT allowing Audi to touch my car, except for warranty work and regular maintenance. I DO NOT want ESP! Let alone the suspension mods and spoiler.

2. I travel all over the place. I am not planning a cross-country trip, except for maybe a trip to CO in August. I can fold down my seats and have more than enough room for a weeks worth of stuff. I do plan on adding a hitch to the car for towing my race tires and supplies, so I can always use the trailer for carrying stuff too!
