This past weekend was perfect for a Friday-departure road trip to Pittsboro NC . . .

for the open house at the Dwell home, a breakthrough modern modular prefab housing design. Definitely worth the trip - check out the link. BTW, the home sells for $240K, without fixtures.

However, I'm really writing about a phenomenon I called "the North Carolina Two-Step". Here's the deal - I'm cruising nicely at 80 or so, and there's a coupla cars ahead in the right lane. One pulls out, methinks to pass . . . and then hangs in the left lane even with the other car . . seemingly for-ev-er . . a rolling roadblock. Oh, and there's NO response (except prolly animosity ..) to flashing my brights to pass. No kidding, this happened OVER and OVER again, so many times I finally had to name it . . . ! Aside from blocking MY way (I mean how dare they . . !), seems to me driving along right next to anyone for any lenght of time is a bad idea . . .ah well.
Then, wonderfully, on the way home, somewhere near the NC/VA border, we stopped at a Hardee's for a burger, and landed in the middle of the regular Saturday car night ! Had to park next to the GTO, what with the yellow foam that matched the TT . . .

Great bunch 'o Detroit iron including an original Hertz Shelby GT350 - uh, not too many 4-cylinder turbos in this crowd, although there were a few blown V8s.. . . still the TT drew some serious attention. Mmmmmmm, burgers and cars, what could be better. . . .
Anyway, the Two-Step notwithstanding, NC is a great place to drive, lots of 70MPH roads with traffic doing 10-15 over, so I spent a lot of time cruising 85+ with the occasional 100+ pass.
We left home Friday around noon, and returned Saturday just after midnight - 36 hours, almost half of it in the car . . . and I'd drive it again in a minute . . ! Only next time, the ModShack will be on the itinerary . . . we were so close . .

DWELL

It was too hot and too crowded to really work on photos - I'm waiting for Dwell's next issue.
