Should I have an oil change, etc done at 15k even though it isn't part of the plan?
Yes.. I do plan on keeping this car for quite some time (unless 2003+ is a nice engine improvement and I can get out of my lease)

I'm perhaps naive in thinking that Audi wouldn't change the intervals to 10K if they didn't have firm engineering data backing that up rather than to save $30 every other oil change.
That having been said, however, I just can't handle 10K in a turbocharged car and will be paying for every other LOF myself...

Oil is cheap. Engine parts and turbo aren't. Turbocharged cars abuse the engine oil more than normally aspirated cars do so you should really change the oil before it has a chance to break down or loose its characteristics and damages the engine.
