Default 186,500 miles-a question

This morning, when starting my 02 225 TT, the car spun over like it had no compression, then it started to eventually sound normal, then started and ran fine the rest of the day. What the heck?

For what it's worth, I had started it on Saturday and moved it 10 feet, then shut down.

Let's see-the tach didn't register for 10 seconds after it started- but on the weird side, while I cranked and then let the starter rest, I noticed a slight positive reading on the boost gauge!

Of course, all this happened right after my dealer called to tell me they had a TDI...

Default when was the last time you replaced the battery??? >>>

weird things happen on these cars with low voltage...the boost gauge could have been lots of things...

Original battery. Non-electric gauge, and the apparent lack of compression (as well as the battery spinning the engine just fine) make me think it isn't a voltage question. I wonder if there's a way the various diverters could have "dead-headed" the engine, preventing air getting into the cylinders? Or intake valves somehow-and temporarily-not seating?

Default could be a sensor,

i had a sim. prob with a 200 quattro, timing was off and the crank position sensor was off, caused the car to seemed like it had no compression while turning over.

NFL. Sounds like the starter bendex drive. The rest of it sounds like old car...

Default its hard to diag. from a distance, like the iraq war..........

but its a old car, could be countless things, i thought that a bendex going bad would grind when spining rather then " poping under rpm of the starter and catching" the fly wheel? mabee im mistaken.

Nope, engine was turning, just no "compression sound". And yes, she's got some miles, but outside of this one occasion, and all through the day, runs great and uses no oil. Still quick, too. That's what's keeping me out of the diesel.

Default i hate to say this, but from experiance, go to AUDI..........

they will save you money in the end with your car with high miles.or you could spend 5 times the price replacing the things that people here "think" are bad, rather the audi just fix it. im a dyi by all means, but some things.....

yeah, cause Audi techs never just throw parts at a car hoping it'll fix it.
