Day before yesterday I glanced down and my tach was reading 5500rpm in 3rd gear at 45mph. I thought "hmmmm"... so I downshifted and it pegged itself. Let off the gas and pulled over and let it idle... 2800rpm with no more actual rpms heard than the 800 or so it normally idles at. Turned the key off and its stuck at 2800 rpm. Will read approx 2800 rpms higher than actual across the board at any (guessed at) rpm. Coincidentally, at the exact same time, the Bose info stopped displaying in the computer readout module. Now I know we've been here before and I checked the archives to confirm. Seems this can be remedied by a simple support strap/cable that supports a wiring harness in the rear of the instrument console. But all archived reports were done by the dealer. My question is has anyone removed the instrument cluster? I cant spot any visible clips, screws etc that seem to hold in in. I think if I can get the cluster out I could easily asess and cure the prob myself without a dealer visit. Stabilizing/supporting or reattaching some loose/disconnected leads isnt rocket science. Anyone done this project, or taken their own cluster out that might shed some light on its removal??

Problems with drive side window not working, then miraculously 2 weeks after the problem started it disappeared, to be replaced by the wrong time and date on the display that could not be changed no matter how often i fiddle with the little silver ****. finicky little problems, but i still luv this car.
