Default 2001 TT 1.8T 6spd manual - 70K mile - what should I look out before buying ?

Hi guys, another newbie wanting to own an audi. I've been looking around for a used TT. I was told there're several problems with TT's model, however, if one do it right, it would be a fantastic car to own.

When it come to buying used 2001 TT 1.8 Turbo, what condition should I expect the car to be in ?

I've read some of the post around here. Folks said timing belt should be replaced every 3yrs. Is it correct ?
If i subject any hairline cracks on the rubber belt ? How much does it cost to replace the whole TB?

What about the clutch?....etc. Welcome all comments.

Thanks.

If it's a 6 speed it's a 225 Quattro.

Timing belt every 4 years or 65K miles . $600-1200 depending on where you take it. DIY $350 Inspection of the belt proves nothing, it's the tensioner and water pump that fail and you can't see them. The timing belt replacement includes all of that + thermostat.

Clutch is a big job, TT quattros have dual mass flywheels which cannot always be resurfaced at higher mileage and slave cylinders that are internal to the bell housing. $1500 - $ 3000 DIY $500-$900.

The clusters go bad LCD center display, fuel and temp gauge. Was a recall but it's expired.

General electronic maladies, ignition switches, hazard switches etc.

Haldex should be serviced every 20K mike but mostly haven't been.

Everything AudiMike said.
NOT wanting to dispute him, I have found many German Auto Repair shops that recommend 6 years or 72 months for the timing belt, tensioner, etc.
I have a 2006 TT Quattro, so perhaps it is different for my year.
I would take your prospective TT to a good mechanic and have them check it out, worth the investment. ( include looking for body work, alignment, etc)
