Default 2001 TT cooling fan problems

My sons 2001 TT quattro A/C quit one day last May, he has been living with it since due to no $. Some time, not sure when, the fans stopped working, totally. We live in North Texas, hotter than hell. We can drive it all day long on the freeway and pretty much anywhere as long as we don't stop for long because the temp starts to creep up.

The temp control sensor, drivers side fan and fan control module were replaced 11 months ago by an Audi guy who is no longer in business.

We have it with a local guy that we trust now and today he put in a new fan control module on my request, didn't help. He tore into it and found some shorted wires etc. He now has both fans working on one speed but neither works two speeds though he is getting both a high and a low speed signal from the temp sensor and the fan switch.

He is pretty confident that the A/C is not kicking on due to low freon so his next step is to charge the system and see how that works and what it effects.

Any help you can provide would be great.

Stop throwing parts at the car until you diagnose it. The guy you trust is grasping in the dark and doesn't know what's wrong with your car.

I'm local to you, contact me and I'll try and help troubleshoot it with you. I've just replaced one fan and two A/C pressure lines, as well as a number of fans and sensors on the MK4 jetta/golf platform.

Apply voltage to fan, check voltage at fan connector.

This is what we do at the shop
Give each fan voltage, each fan has a low speed and high speed
If fans work, see if they are getting voltage
Above the battery in that little black box is a couple of fuses
We see that fuse box melt fuses multiple times

Does a4 have that fusible link? Normally it's 2 fans and a module. My fan died and module was fine. Test voltage at fan and voltage test fan.

A4's don't have the small Black box with fuses like the TT
There are fuses I'm sure for the A4 not sure where , depends on what year
