Default 2001 TT date and milage reset

I have a 2001 TT 225 with about 25000 on it and have a problem I cannot seem to find the source for. Every time I lock the car and come back to it couple of hours later (overnight, it will have the date and the trip mileage, mpg etc. reset. I have no idea what it could be. I replaced the battery (original) with the Optima Red top. Currently the car is at the dealership awaiting a diagnosis costing $101 per hour.

Please help me the last thing I want is for a mechanic/ technician to tell me is a little fuse or relay, after I paid a little over $200!

Thanks a lot in advance.

Default So if you don't lock the car, will the problem happen after a few hours of idle?

Sounds like a fuse or relay

Seriously, sounds like it has something to do with power to the cluster and the alarm module output - only if it only happens with the locking of the car. make sure you do check all the fuses though

Default When idling the problem does not occur...>

It only happens when I have it parked (off) for a while. It can be couple of minutes sometimes or half a day. Also I don't know if this is a common thing, but noticed my needles for the tach and speedo buzz and move down, then they revert to the normal position, then buzz again and move down, and back up after I have the door open for like 10-20 seconds. It sounds like a bee, literally.

Default sorry, what I meant is will the problem happen also if you leave the car unlocked overnight?

It sounds like you have an instrument cluster problem though. Maybe it just needs to be removed and reconnected. Maybe it's a loose connection to the memory power wire.

Mine did this when the battery was going. How old is the Optima?
