Default 24 pounds of boost...?

Hey, here's a question for the mechanics on the forum...

I have a buddy who claims to be peaking at 24lbs of boost, and holding at 22. Here's the rub: he's driving a 1.8T v-dub GTi.

His mods (according to him), are carbonio intake/APR chip/3 inch turbo-back exhaust. He claims there's been no other mods. Now, I used to drive a GTi with the exact same mods (except for the exhaust, but I can't see how that'd make the diff) and I peaked at 18lbs, and held at about 15lbs.

Sounds to me like some kind of wastegate adjustment or something. Any opinions?

Default First, that might be too much for a k03 and without a fmic it is killing his power,

unless he has a boost gauge to back that up it is not possiable. Only way could be with a BM. Even TT with those mods dont make that boost.

Default agree in general but>>>>>

1st: is he on pump gas

2nd: i think if he have some custome programmming that turns off ALL safety measurement (ie temp, timing retarding etc.) that could be possible BUT he'll fry up his turbo in no time

3rd: that sounds like K04 numbers

I kinda thought 21-22 psi would hit limp for a k03

1st: Yup. 93-octane pump gas.

2nd: I know for a fact he's running an APR chip. Don't know if that's got customizable programming or whatever.

3rd: Definitely a K03 sport in there.

He does have a boost gauge, but I haven't personally seen this monster boost reading yet. Thing is, this is a pretty good friend of mine, and while he's fulla sh*t about a lot of things, this is an easily verifiable claim, so I can't imagine he'd be throwing BS.

Yeah, he doesn't have an FMIC yet. He's looking at them, but hasn't got one yet.

He has a boost gauge, but I just heard his 'claim' today so I haven't seen this monster boost yet. This guy's a really good friend of mine, though, and while he's fulla dookie about many things, and he's known for his tall-tales, this is a pretty easily verifiable claim, so I can't imagine he's BS'ing.

Default I did call and they said the pump is $130 if I want to do it myself.....

I'll probably try to have them do it.
