Default 245/40's on 180FWD 17" ??

Anyone know if I can fit 245/40's on the stock 17" wheels, and also have them fit within the wheel wells?

Default That is a pretty big tire for the 17" stock wheel....

I personally would not go any bigger than a 225 on that wheel

Default It's not *that* big, but my tire fitment guide says that 245/40/17 needs an 8.0" minimum...

...rim width. You can run a 245/45/17 on a 7.5" rim, though.

Curtis on the west coast was running 245/45/17 Kumho race tires on his 180 FWD when I saw it last year. I don't know if there was any rubbing issue, though.....

Default They fit fine, 245/40 Kuhmo 712.. The ABT Z3 wheel is 8" and clears the Stoptechs.

Default The extra 5% allow the sidewalls enough flex room to fit on a 7.5" ??

I was looking at Hoosiers and did not see a 245/45, so that is why I was interested in the 40's, but after doing some more looking around this morning on tirerack, I noticed that the RS303's do come in 245/45.

I also noticed that they say Hoosier 245/45's have a rim width range of 8.5-9.5", but the Kumho 245/45's have a rim width range of 7.5-9". Does that mean the Kumho's have more flex in the sidewalls?

Do you have any contact info for Curtis?

Default I don't think that it's sidewall flex more than sidewall length/angle. The 40-series sidewalls...

...might not reach the bead area on the narrow rim safely!

I don't have Curtis' e-mail address handy, but he does lurk here on occasion.....
