Default 2nd Gear Grinding

Last week my 2002 225 Quattro began grinding when shifting from 1st to 2nd. It occurs starting at about 4000 rpm. I have 39,000 miles on this car and I'm the second owner. Does anyone have any ideas? The remaining shifting of all other gears is smooth.

Would try adjusting the shift linkage first.

Default My thought too

Bad synchros are a common problem on the TT (Usually 2nd to 3rd though, on the 6 speed). Happened to me.

Get it fixed or documented while still under warranty. That is not a repair you want to pay for.

The grinding occurs at higher rpms. I can usually drop down to 2500 to 3000 rpm and avoid the grind but anything higher is a problem. I had my friend drive the car as well and the grinding happened as well where it did not before.

Default If it is documented BEFORE the warranty runs out.....

....will they still fix it AFTER it runs out?

The reason I ask is mine is in for the 40K service today, and I asked them to check the occasional 2nd to 3rd grind. (it only grinds above 3.5-4k rpm when the car is hot, but hasn't recently)

I have one month left on the warranty and mentioned that people have solved the problem with Redline MT-90, but they would not acknowlege that as a solution. I'd rather try to solve it with Redline first, before I have them tear apart the tranny...but time is running out quick on the warranty.
