3.2 cold start surging

The wife's 3.2 coupe surges a fair amount when starting from cold. It takes a few minutes before it drives normally. This is with morning temperatures around 90 deg here in Phoenix. She lets it run until the fast idle comes off before driving off. Does anybody else have this problem?
