Re: 2002 Audi TT 1.8L roadster
I searched the threads and it seems a few others had a similar problem, but no solutions.
Anyway, the #38 fuse blows every time the trunk release is pushed (either inside the car or on the remote). And of course, it shuts down about everything. It calls for a 15 amp fuse and I tried putting a 20 amp in to see if it would work and it has. No more blowing, but I don't want to screw up the wiring and would like to know what's causing it to blow in the first place.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can't say for sure, because I just bought it and it happened when I first used the trunk release after I got it home.
I remember when I first went to look at it, we opened the trunk and it worked OK.
I know it has to do with the trunk because none of the other accessories on that fuse blow when I activate them.

If it was a new thing thn I would say the trunk release solenoid/motor is going bad, has a short, or is binding up and overloading.
It's hard to say on a car with a unknown history since i've seen cases here puttng the next size fuse in solved the problem. Going up 1 fuse size usually won't cause a dangerous situation (I usually hate saying things like this so as a disclaimer I have to say do this at your own risk) but I wouldn't increase it further if the problem doesn't go away.

Any idea where the solenoid is? My guess is that it would be near the latch. I really don't want to get raped by the dealer and thought I could remove the panel and possibly replace it myself.
Or maybe just oil everything good.
