It happened yesterday on the freeway. I heard a loud "tek!" and there it was, a small crater, a few millimeters deep, probably cauese by a small rock.
I don't want to shell out the $500 deductible for my insurance. Luckily, it's in the center of the windshield and not directly in my field of view.
Do I have to live with it or can it repaired in some way?
Any suggestion appreciated.

There are guys that come out to your place of business/home or you can take it in.
They fill the chip with some type of resin. The caveat is this: It can't be in your line of site.
If you don't, and you stare at it and obsess about it, it'll get cold, and then you'll kick on the defroster and then a big gigantic CRACK and there will be one the whole lenght of your windshield.
At least that is how it happens to me...
Tom Boucher

I don't know if this will work for you --- BUT --- this happened to my Diamante last summer. I called my insurance company and to my surprise, they offered to have it repaired and waived the deductible. I suppose they figured having it fixed would be cheaper for them than to let it go and have a crack develop that would require replacing the whole windshield. Mention it to you insurance company and see what they say --- couldn't hurt.

Same here with the A4. Called the insurance company (State Farm in Virginia) and they turned me over to a company that specialized in processing windshield damage; that company had a list of companies that would come to my house. A very competent guy was in my driveway next day and took about an hour to replace the entire windshield. He told me to go easy on closing the door for 24 hours, and not drive in the rain. The only problem was the rear view mirror was not replaced exactly where it should have been so the mini-visor between the two visors doesn't fully clear the mirror when I turn it down--I've got to wiggle the mirror a little. Not worth calling him back.
MelloA4

I live in Atlanta GA, and found a company called "SUPERGLASS", for about $50 they will come to your location, and do a COSMETIC repair. .
They attache a machine that pulles the air from the crack and fills it with a resin at the same time.
As long as it is under the size of a quarter, they can do it.
Be careful though I have had this on another car and the company promised to "fix" the crack, but it was not a cosmetic fix, only filled it with a resine to prevent from spreading, still looked the same,
This repair, all is left when they are done is a tiny hole where they drill to insert the resin, much smaller than the big whole, sometimes depending on the damage, it can almost not be detected. .
Good luck
