Default AARGH! Today is TT damage day :( Any estimates?

Here's the story. I was at the office all day (drove my daily driver Saab 900 there) and the TT was at home, safe in the garage. My father was helping out and cleaning out the garage.

I got a call about 10:30 AM from him saying that he had hit the TT. WHAT???? That's right. He had moved the TT out of the garage and parked it in the driveway to clean things out. Okay, no problem. I actually had totally trusted him to drive the TT. But when he was backing the car into the garage, he crunched the front driver's quarterpanel against the dumpster in the driveway (lots of cleanup happening.)

I have to say that I'm relatively devastated. The car has been until now absolutely pristine.

Here are the pictures:

The damage seems to be to the quarter panel and a scrape and small dent on the hood. Fortunately, no wheel damage at all. Who has an estimate about my repair bill? I'm just impatient and can't get it into a body shop I trust until Tuesday.

I don't want to claim it on my insurance (my record is clean, and I don't want anything on it) and Dad is worried about claiming it on his policy, because they might be dropped (my younger sister's record is, at the least, "interesting")

Thanks for the info, and for listening to me. I'm really much more upset about this than I thought I would be

Default $2000. I don't think an accident without another driver being involved counts against you, you

might call your agent and mask your voice and ask hypotheticals.

Default About 1200 bucks or so, I'd guess. Would you like me to handle the funeral arrangements >>

for your dad?? Just kidding of course, but I'd seriously consider wacking my dad if he did that to my car. At the least, dad outta pay for the repairs out of pocket to protect everyones insurance...... that is if everyones insurance is in risk of being bumped.

Default I think the estimates below are in the ballpark. Q panel is $178...

and that is before paint. I really don't know how they will repair your hood, but I believe it is aluminum and I doubt it's cheap.

I scrunched my rt. frnt. qtr. panel backing out of the garage too. Take the opportunity to get the entire front of the car re-sprayed (if it is sandblasted like many of our cars).

Sorry this happened, but I am sure your father feels worse about it than you do.

A fellow TT owner and friend had the same kind of damage at the same area - did it while parking in a tight underground garage spot by scraping the wall. Cost him around $1,350. That was 2 years ago. Car looks perfect ever since.

Default Sorry to see that! I'm sure you're no more upset than any of us would be, but you'll get it fixed..

and it'll be as good as new. It kinda looks like what I did to my camaro (at the time) a few years back. I mis-judged a pillar in a parking deck and took out the passenger door and rear quarter panel.

Good thing the wheel's ok, like you said.
