Default ABS/ESP issues

I'm trying to sort out the next step is resolving this issue. In a nutshell:

ABS and ESP lights are on. When starting the car up, ABS light is on. Begin to move forward and automatic braking will be applied in seemingly haphazard fashion until 25-30 mph, at which time the ESP light will come on. Alternatively, turning ESP off before driving eliminates the braking.

The car drives fine with both ABS/ESP lights on (of course, both systems are inactive).

Checking the ABS Brake module in Vag-Com, I get this:

Address 03: ABS Brakes
Control Module Part Number: 8N0 907 379 E
Component and/or Version: ESP 20 CAN V005
Software Coding: 18446
Work Shop Code: WSC 01236
2 Faults Found:

00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Front Left (G47)
16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent
00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Front Left (G47)
04-10 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent

I have done the following:
Replaced the front left ABS wheel sensor.
Checked the front left ABS ring for chips, cracks, or other flaws.
I am still getting these codes.

I drove around a bit and monitored the wheel speeds with vag-com. A very predictable pattern shows up.

All four wheel sensors work fine above 32 MPH. They also work fine under 20 MPH. Between 20 and 32, the left front wheel sensor freaks out, showing either the actual wheel speed or 0.

My next thought is to replace the ABS module. Any thoughts?

Are you getting any weird vibrations between 20-32?

Have you checked all of the wiring?

I've checked it from the sensor to the hole in the wheel well, but not into the engine compartment. Would need to do some disassembly there.

Weird vibrations... more like violent jerks. If you keep the gas at the same level, the car accelerates than looses all forward momentum, then jerks forward, and then goes back and forth for a few seconds before ESP kicks off and things return to normal. I'm just killing ESP now before I take off.
