service rep said it takes about a day to replace the compressor because I guess it's tucked in the engine bay and alot of junk needs to be removed and replaced to get at it (that's technical jargon). Definitely take it to an independent shop. I would if I didn't have a CPO warranty.
I forgot to mention that the cycling of cool/warm air dropped off until ultimately the a/c never blew cool. I thought this info might help in your preliminary daignosis. Good luck.

offer with certain used cars. It covers the car against any mechancal failures up to 6 years or 100,000 miles from the original delivery date. It does not cover regular maintenance.
I bought my 2002 last year and the original warranty expired in March. You pay more for a CPO car but it seems to be paying for itself already.
