Default Advice: Don't let a torn diaphram ruin your track day

Like the subject says....

I had a great track event this past weekend at Texas World Speedway. A large number of Audi's were there including 4 MKI TT's.

On the second day I noticed some reduction in boost, which I attributed to heat soak (yes it was still hot in Texas). But on the drive home I kept thinking about the issue. Something didn't seem right because I had low boost starting in the first lap (long before heak soak should be an issue).

Finally a new theory came to mind that it was possibly my DV-R with diaphram. This was my first event since installing the diaphram DV and since I never had to think about problems with past DV's this was not the first thing to come to mind.

Sure enough when I got home and opened up the DV I found what you see in the picture below.

Symptom: Slowly decreasing boost pressure on WOT (started at 19psi, then lowered to 16, then fell to 12). No fluctuations. No fluttering sound (but that may be maked by my loud exhaust).

Glad it is an easy fix. :-)

Default No problems running the chipped boost at TWS? The S4's are often afraid to run

at full boost. But they obviously have an inferior design.

I have sold my Elise and will be returning the TT to track duty.

Default I have never had boost issues at TWS in the past

But this was my first event in the TT since the Turbo failure (and subsequent DP/Exhaust upgrade). I expected some failure and am glad it was something so minor.

But it is a little frustrating since I had spare diaphrams on me at the track...just didn't think to install them.

I also had a Forge piston DV with me, but it ended up getting installed in another Audi when it's DV blew up (literally).

I guess all of this speaks highly of the piston DV's, as I have never had to think about issues with them over the past 8 years.

Why did you sell the Elise?

Default My concern is overheating/blown turbo. DV issues I can live with. Where did you get chipped?

I'm thinking about the APR.

Wife is staying home with our new baby. DINK no mo.

Default I am running APR 93 oct. chip and have been very happy.

APR chipped my car at one of the car shows. You can check to see if there is a local APR dealer near you.

There are also ways to flash your ECU through the ODBII port or send the ECU off to the chip tuner.

Default What diverter valve is it that failed?

Is that the APR R-1 or some other make? Or is that the Forge?
