Default Advice on timing belt needed. I have Audi assured, do I just drive it and let them fix it if it

rips? I asked my dealer if they would be willing to chip in on the preventive side and do the tbelt service. Dealer said there's no need to, while we have all seen otherwise. I have Audi assured for the next 2 years, so do I just keep driving and let them fix the engine if it brakes, or should I change now and absorb the cost?

Thanks.

Default By the manual, it should last to 105K. Up to you if you want to..>>

be without your car for a while, when they take the time to rebuild your engine, should it snap. Or maybe find an independent who will do it for probably half the cost.
At 60K, you'll need the 60K service, and the timing belt/water pump/tensioner redone.

Default Ay Audi tech and friend said off the record that Audi knows of the timing belt problem...>>

but will replace it on a 'ask' basis. He told me that 60K is good to change it out along with the water pump. ECS Tuning has a kit that includes the metal pump and most dealers will install it with no problems.

I'm going to replace the belt next month as I have 57K.

if they won't pay, let them change out the engine if it breaks. meanwhile U get a loaner too right?

Default well, say I get an independent to do it, if it brakes then...I'm screwed and without a warranty.

I just don't feel like paying for the problem caused by poor design on Audis' part.

Default You only hear the "bad" stories>>

I'm sure significantly more often than not, 1.8T owners go to (or beyond) the t-belt service interval. Yes there's a chance the belt, water pump, rollers, tensioner will fail. IMHO I'd say it's a slim chance. If you have the warranty who cares? Personally I'd be praying for it to break. Minimum you get a top end rebuild for free!!! Drive on.

Default my independent came highly recommended. Did a great job...

and it cost me half what the dealer wanted.
I got 60K service, belt/water pump replaced, and rear brakes and rotors for $1200. Had the belt replaced at 63K, now have 79K on the car. Drives wonderfully. But, I do have an ext. warranty on the car which I purchased a while back. An independent is usually much more consciencious than the dealer anyway. Especially on a big job like that. They had my car for a couple days. I had them order the ECS kit to do the timing belt replacement. See if you can find an indep. that come recommended. If you're in Cali. I might know a couple.

Default I know a good shop (Toronto). Problem is that if it snaps after they do it, I'm out of luck with

my warranty.
