Default Air box mods done today

Well did a bunch of things today, installed my non res 100mm FM pipes, rotated the tires, and changed the oil. But the one that everyone is probably more interested is what Larry and me came up with for the air intake.

First let me start by saying the other day I was driving and noticed and big decrease in performance. Upon checking things I found that the snorkel bringing fresh air into the cone filter fell out of the cone. Once I put it back in the performance increased. So my opinion is that when the car is moving (I really don’t care while the car is standing still) the snorkel does provide sufficient fresh air.

No we have the debate of the hot air being sucked into the system going around this forum. It is my opinion that while the car is moving I can see how much that would be a factor. Everyone keeps talking about dynos with the hood up, with it down. I really don't feel either is a true benchmark because you don’t have the airflow you would have if the car is moving.

But, just for the hell of it we gave it try.

I bought Aluminized Heat Barrier. It is 40"x36" and costs aprox $75. It can withstand radiant temps in excess of 2000F.

We applied it via and adhesive and below are the pics.

I have also done a air intake mod. I like your idea, but I think it can be improved with a few ideas I been cooking up. Email me....

Also, I like to know, what did you do with the other hose that feeds to the exhaust? It too needs to be filtered.

Default Man, getting cool air into the engine has GOT to be on my list of future mods

Between the FMIC and the intake, I think I'm currently missing out on a LOT of potential.

Default You name acutally came up...

We had such a hard time trying to figure out how the hose went and all Larry kept saying was "how did jason do it". The we figured out that you dont have an intercooler on that side, I do and it blocks it a lot.

Guess I have to get the FMIC.

Pete, warm up you charge card machine...

Default No, Mike has a 225TTR . . .

We think we figured out a path for the hose to follow and were trying it, but the hose we had was too short. We then took a ride to a speed shop and they closed 30 minutes before we got there!

Mike might be stopping there tomorrow or duing the week. Either way we will be running it out this week or at the latest next Saturday.

The Thermal blankey made a huge difference just by touch. We will be taking temps with his VAG Tool this week as well.

Ooooo shiny, with .5 less filter surface area then a panel filter and still open to heat.
