i dont have the best roads round here and i already have 18s.
i really want to drop the car a little and want to increase the handling. I just dont want to make the ride that much worse than it can be at times

Had em on my TT with 18's as well. I've never owned a car with a stock suspension (well my new 04 Avant's is stock - for now). I've had Bilstein, Koni, H&R, Neuspeed, Tokico, Boge etc. and the KW's were the best hands down. I'd buy again in a heartbeat.

From my own personal experience, lowered suspensions + 18" wheels + NYC roads do not mix. In my bmw 3-series lowered with H&R/Bilstein (don't know how this compares with the KW, which may actually be softer when adjusted properly), aside from being too uncomfortable even for a driving enthusiast like me, there was tremendous unnecessary strain on suspension components (bushings replaced prematurely, shock mounts, etc) and I'm sure it sped the onset of interior squeaks and rattles which plagued me until the very day I sold it. My freakin' exhaust hangers kept breaking off because of the bad roads. Plus, you have to consider bump-steer, which our smooth-road bretheren don't have to deal with, but which really gets annoying when you're driving day-to-day on crappy roads with a competition-type suspension. The result is that, for my purposes, the car handled much worse than before I spent lots of money on suspension mods, except when I was out of the city driving on real roads. In the end, I actually swapped out the suspension and went back to stock springs + 16" wheels, making my car a much better handling machine, because it wouldn't keep bumping out of control while attempting to hug the BQE.
Over the years I have bent and cracked many expensive 16", 17" and 18" wheels on city potholes. FWIW I decided when I bought a new car, no suspension mods until I moved to the suburbs (aka never). Let me tell you, the stock tt suspension is like floating on clouds for me. 17" is as high as I'll go until someone comes up with a wheel-bend warranty.
That said, I'm thinking of buying a set of forged 17" wheels for summer, if I can find an especially resillient wheel.

i mostly take the TT out of the city for day trips etc.
but the highways aroung here can still knock you around a bit...
oh btw, the 17" stock 5 spoke rims are forged.
you live in the city?

I don't have the forged ones, I have the cast 6-spokes. I like the 5 spokes, but as long as I'm buying rims, I'd prefer a more unique look.
Yes, I live in Brooklyn. I used to live in the UES.
