Alternator transplant complete!

Great job Rich...BTW I noticed in pic#9 just above the one with the nail.....
That the rubber piece, above your hand, on the end of the intake manny, looks like OEM. Has the dealer replaced this? Many of us have found cracks in this piece on the inside of the 180 degree turn that your finger is against.

Great Write Up - We are going to move the Chicago Mod Place to Your House Now
You are starting to get right up there with the best of them on tearing things apart and putting it back.

THANK-YOU Rich! Followed these directions today, and was done in about 3 hrs including
the trip to Pep Boys to get a new alternator.
I did make a few deviations from Rich's directions, namely:
Unbolted the power steering reservoir to get some extra hand room.
Removed the tensioner completely (after pinning it) to get freer access to the bottom alternator bolt.
Disconnected the "three-legged hose" connected to the intake manifold to gain some room.
Dropped a bunch of tools and bolts so it would take me a little longer ; )
Alternator cost $202 with return of the old one for a reman part with "limited lifetime warranty". It is a Bosch part, with Audi/VW markings on it.
