Default aluminum racing jack

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/40046/jack2_2.jpg"></center><p>
for those of you looking for an aluminum racing jack here's the scoop:

Some of these jacks are made with a cast aluminum frame like the one in the foreground of the picture above:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=47246

Others are made with a solid piece of billet aluminum for the frame and a cast lift arm, like this for $279...these are the best value:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=2672

others are made entirely from aluminum billet and cost $600+:

http://www.garage-toys.com/larheavdutal.html
http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&amp;SKU=77744

also some have 'seal-less hydraulic pump' sections...

...and some are 3 strokes and some 5-6 strokes to full lift.

....some have longer reach ...but most of those are made of steel...see article below...

costco has a 'seal-less hydraulic pump' sectioned 3000# aluminum billet framed jack for $279..that's a best value for those that are costco members...other than that...see the harbor freight 2T item for $279 below...

I just got mine from costco...very similar in design and construction (both are made in taiwan) to griotsgarage.com except that the costco version has a billet frame and cast arm whereas the griotsgarage.com is all billet...also here's a comp from our uber friends at bimmerfest and their picture of the $199 cast framed jack:

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&amp;threadid=14237

and a reminder for our new members...only jack the TT by the rubber donuts or the other methods...search for the postings....DO NOT Jack any sheetmetal part period except with the factory jack at the jack points!

best

Default Questions - I presume the one in the foreground is the Costco model - yes??

What's the one in the background?

How much does the Costco one weigh? and
how tall is it in the down position? and
how tall is it in the full up position?

How many pumps for the Costco model to full up?

Thanks alot - John

6 strokes

37.4#
3 1/2" to 17 1/2"
6 strokes

harbor $279:
2T

55#
4" to 19"
5 strokes

Default I think "full up" on the one in the background would flip your TT on it's top.

Looks like it was designed with SUV owners in mind. : )

Default Yep, I can carry that 85 lb blue boat anchor . . .

ok, I lied.

I have both, the DK (blue one)is great. Other works well at the track.

there is a lot more to jack choice than this . . .

Default Be careful with the silver jack (shown in pic). The handle lock bolt

could come in contact with the car (personal sad experience)

I prefer that bolt be the other way around.

I have two HD Sears jacks.. One is in front, one in back.

Default No its and AC Hydraulics Jack

looks like a Dk20hlq to me.....

they are about $500 from Ultimate Garage, but for the TT the regular DK20 is fine: $260

see link below<ul><li><a href="http://www.ultimategarage.com/acjacks.html">Ultimate Garage</a></li></ul>
