Any opinions on K40 remote radar detection systems?

I know about the V1, I asked about the K40, The V1 is respected but it's ugly & in the way (more)
The K40 can be front & rear detectors under the bumpers & the readout panel can be placed underneath the dash where I can use AUDIO ONLY for a warning. I have never, ever, used the display- useless. You should react & keep your eyes on the road.
I have lived without the V1 so far (escort & bell - both cordless), Even people with the Vaunted V1 have been nailed (sometimes twice). I want to know if anyone has used the K40 & their overall satisfaction with it.

From what I have read . . .
The K40 cannot be mounted behind the bumper! Every install I have ever seen has that ugly black box attached to the front and rear license plactes just for the fact that the unit can't see through the plastic bumpers!
I would call K40 to confirm behind bumper mounting before doing any more research on it.
Rik, a visual is quite often better than an audio warning. It is even better to use the combination of the two.
Good luck in your search.

I've got one in my 911 (more)
and I'll be honest, I like the V1 much better, and the V1 tends to be more accurate as well.
Don't get me wrong, the K40 is a great setup, but its really expensive. Compared to the 400$ of the V1, the K40 is just outrageous. The previous owner of my 911 paid for mine, as it came installed in the car. While I do appreciate the clean and "like factory" installation, with no boxes hanging around my windshield, something must be said about the V1 and its "the cop is that way" arrows.
My K40 setup does not have directional display, showing where the signal is coming from. It simply is two lights in the dash, and an on/off dial. It looks very much like a part of the instrument cluster, since there is another **** identical to the K40 **** which controls the windshield wiper. The two little lights are simple a radar light, and a laser light (tells which you're getting nailed by).
Overall, I like the V1 much better. Its more accurate, tells me more of what I want to know, and costs much less.

My installation has sensors in "hidden" places (more)
The sensors in mine are small, and installed in places hardly visible, yet, they can see the radar/laser signals. One sensor is mounted under the driver's side headlight, *in* the headlight assembly. With the 1987 911 (and many other years in that era) there is a small gap below the headlight assembly, which made for a perfect spot.
In the rear, the sensor is mounted in the same fashion, but in the tail light area. There's a small gap there as well. So my installation is almost invisible, and definitely un-noticable, but from what I understand from the previous owner, a great deal of customized installing (ie, taking apart the sensors units to make them smaller and fit properly) was done to gain this setup.
But again, I prefer my V1 much more.

I was referring to a regular install . . .
Chris isn't the unit you are talking about the one that comes with the large black boxes about 5 or 6 inches long by about 1x1? They are usually mounted on license plates front and rear?
A full custom install of that K40 you sound like you have is thousands$$$$!

Right...
I am aware of the cost involved with the installation of my setup. Like I said before, thankfully, someone else (the previous owner) had it done, so I didn't have the expense on my plate.
And yes, the setup on my Porsche is the same as what you speak if. It was a custom installation done by some stereo shop, and they "altered" all of the hardware to fit seamlessly into the car's exterior. The sole purpose was to *not* have the ugly black box(es) ugly-ing the car.
