Default Anybody have problems with their mass air flow sensor going bad at about 50k

My 2000 1.8T is running horrible at first I thought that I had water in the fuel or a clogged fuel injector but after running the tank to E it doesnt seem to be any better. The power serge happens only when the rpms drop below 2k and revved hard to 4k in 2nd gear the car tremors and shudders as if its not getting sufficient fuel or spark but the car runs perfectly when its idling and not pushed. If I drive it easy the car runs smooth only when I step on it is when the problem occurs. My mechanic had sad that the problem might be the mass air flow sensor going bad and that the computer compensates for the bad sensor. Also the check engine light comes on and then goes out after I the serge smoothes out. Is anyone experiencing the same problems, Or could this be a problem with my APR ECU upgrade.

Default The fault code(s) being set when the CEL comes on should help with diagnosis.

But yes, the MAFs commonly fail. You could try cleaning the element with electronics cleaner.

Default Rumor has it that the MAF has been waranteed to 70 K if you want to hassel w/ a dealer.

If not there are several other options. Try www.impex.com Part# 06A906461A FOR MY MODEL 180 . yours may differ but I pointed you in the right direction.

Default You can also try unplugging it and see how it runs...>>

If it runs better (by defaulting to built in Fuel maps), you can bet that's it. I would say there's a 99.82% chance it's a MAF..
