For anyone with a Delphi XM Radio, I came up with a new mounting method.

I got this XM radio because the receiver is detachable and can be easily hooked up to a home stereo or a boombox they make for the unit as well. However, mounting the receiver proved to be tricky. I didn't want to go with a gooseneck or something that attaches to the center console braces, because I didn't want to sacrifice knee room.
I wanted the receiver to be mounted just under the a/c vent ring on the far left, just above the light switch.
I was going to use the locking velcro, which held the receiver just fine, but the textured surface of the TT's dash won't allow the adhesive to hold properly, and I didn't want to use anything like epoxy, which would take part of the dash with it if I ever wanted to remove the velcro.
So, I decided to use the air vent itself to help mount it. It's just a cylinder inside the soft rubber dash material, if you haven't taken one out, they just slide out. The rubber dash ends about 2" inside, and I found that I could fashion a sort of hook to hang my receiver on, and that I could anchor this hook inside the dash.
I took some aluminum extruded wire I had (you can get it at Home Depot, but they also give it to you with DSS dish install kits, and I have tons of it left over) and drilled two holes in the cradle that the receiver mounts in. I then bent the wire to make a U shape, and threaded the two long ends through the holes. I then bent them out and towards each other form two parallel lines (see pic with vent removed). I then took a knife and cut out a small channel in the dash material, taking care not to take too much out of the front lip, so it couldn't be seen if I removed it later.
I then slid the air vent assembly back in while holding the receiver and wire down, and it fit right back in. The mod doesn't affect the ability to turn the vent ring to open or close airflow, nor does it affect its direction. The velcro now only has to keep the unit from moving side to sode, which it does quite well since it no longer has to support the weight of the unit. The vent ring sits about 1/8" further out than the other vent rings, but it is only apparent if you look from the side.
