Anyone ever use Lubro-Moly voll-Synthetic oils?

The concern was with the longitudenal engines - which had a 3.7 quart capacity...
they switched to a larger filter to allow for more oil and changed to synthetic being required. There is a published list of oils that Audi approves for this application only. It didn't apply to the transverse engines.

Joe, question for you on that subject. What can I do as a preventive measure on my wife's
1.8 Passat to get rid of any sludge that might be there now? The VW dealer said they don't do anything (which means they wait for the engine to seize, and then make big bucks), but referred me to Firestone for an oil flush treatment.
What would you suggest? I will switch her to full synthetic, but what can I do to eliminate any current sludge build up? Also, can you point out the "right" oil filter for her car now? It's an early '01 Passat.

If you don't have super high miles or didn't change the oil frequently I really wouldn't worry too
much about it. The major problems occured with people who changed the oil every 10k or longer with or without changing the filters and used dino oil. If you changed every 5k with a factory filter - you really shouldn't have anything to worry about - even if it wasn't synthetic. I'll have to check on the oil filter number - the difference was in the first three digits - I think it was 068 vs 06A. It's the number that is different from ours :-)
