anyone know how you get the interior panel off (CD changer panel?)?

You have to start with the hatch, take the floor out and the left side interior panel in the hatch area. The weatherstripping around the hatch opening has to be removed first. It just pulls away from the body of the car. Then the rear seat has to be removed, starting with the seat bottom, which, i believe, just pulls out with a tug on the leading edge. Then you should see a couple of bolts that hold the rear seat backs in. Remove the left seatback, then, trying to think back to TT school, you should be able to pull the interior panel off that covers the CD changer. It takes a little force, and pay attention to where the little clips fall, you'll need them.
