Default First batch of translations are in.....

Page 8

The TT equipped with the V6 engine is already a true "theme" car with its performance.
No one can be blamed for having it tuned only optically and leaving the rest in its original condition.
Although, the calmest owner - even having the least interest in tuning - thinks of stepping up a
level in performance sooner or later. This can be achieved by a new air filtration, or an exhaust system,
chip-tuning, or even a compressor/supercharger for the most enthusiastic. The one who is willing to conquer
the Ferraris, Lamborghinis and other similar super sports cars can only trust in rebuilding the engine
(equipping it with turbo).

The Canadian specialist of VWs and Audis HPA Motorsports is sought for not only rims and other small parts,
but for their knowledge of engine rebulids aquired over the years. The owners of the V6 equipped TTs are
offered three performance boosters by HPA - jointly developed with the well-known European engine builder HPG.
These boosters share a common feature where two compressors force the air into the cylinders.

Engine

The Audi car of David Brilliandt was equipped with HPA's most powerful engine first. His TT
had a 1.8L, four-cylinder engine, but he could not resist HPA's great opportunity to make the
very expensive conversion on his car. Originally, he was motivated by the 540 HP offered by the level 2,
but HPA even promised him an better solution. HPA ordered a 3.2L engine built for the European markets,
then disassembled it, and equipped it with stronger pistons, rods, crank-shaft and bearings.
The thicker gasket on the cylinder head dropped the compression, then they built in two Garrett GT28R
turbo cartridges with ball bearings, also two intercoolers and the piping/manifolds.
For safety's sake, they also designed two independently operable fuel supply systems and a special
exhaust system for the TT. The latter has a switch that can be operated from the inside,
and in its fully open position the exhaust gases can leave the engine without any hindrance/choking.
In its closed position, the exhaust gas flows through the silencers. How can the performance be improved even more?
The nitro! The dinitrogen-oxide gas (cold) is not injected into the intake, rather it is flown through the
intake air cooler in order to maintain the performance even on hot summer days. HPA included a smart,
little switch to choose between normal street and race modes. In race mode, the both the turbo pressure and
the amount of fuel increase so does the acceleration. The maximum power on the crank-shaft reaches 675 HP,
at the torque amount of 930 Nm. Incredible! This car with the mass of 1560 kg accelerates to 100 km/h in
3.2 seconds in normal street mode, and in 2.9 seconds in race mode. The quater-mile distance can be made in
11.5 and 10.89 seconds accordingly - and that is a significant difference. The terminal velocity remains the same
at 337 km/h at 7800 RPM.

Transmission

The engineers at HPA had to be cautious, therefore re-designed the transmission, too. The gears were all changed to
more robust ones, and the differential unit (gears) in the back was substituted with a Quaife one.
HPA's (software) program also deserves great recognition, which overrides the factory ESP (Electronic Speed Control)
settings. The diver has nothing to do but slam the acceleration pedal at start, - meanwhile the ESP sets the rev at 5000
RPM - and release the clutch pedal.

Exterior

In order to increase the exerted vertical force, the car received a spoiler/wing attachment made by Rieger, and a huge
carbon fiber wing (DTM). The Votex set (that is inside the cockpit) and the Rieger "skirts" provides mainly optical
advances. The front bonnet (lid) and the front fenders that are also made of carbon fiber took some weight
off the car. The former has a ventillation inlet to supply additional cooling air to the engine.

Wheels & running gear

- Hide quoted text -
The 235/40 tires put on 18 BBS wheels can barely keep up with the powerful engine, but David tells us that the key
is the 4WD. There is no compromise in the running gear, which is a KW set with adjustable height and rigidity.
There is also a new break system handling critical situations.

Interior

After looking at the breath-taking interior, it becomes obvious that we face a real beast. The sports seats
covered with red genuine leather made by Recaro Pole Position. The 5-point Simpson racing belts, custom-made
frame [...] GoTTzilla gear stick, Sparco steering wheel, and the bare gas tank and fuel lines in the trunk leave
no doubt that the car is a race car with a street pass/visa. There is no stereo system inside, the place of the
head unit (CD player) is filled with auxiliary equipment.
